Nam Phan, 26, began training martial arts at the age of 8. He studied Quyen Dao (a Vietnamese martial art) under Grandmaster Ha Quoc Huy. He trained there for nearly 9 years and earned his black belt.

Nam Phan is a versatile fighter who has not only Quyen Dao, but also BJJ, boxing and wrestling experience. But his real devotion is No Gi Jiu-jitsu.

He currently trains No Gi JJ with Rick Estrada, Russ Muira, and Adam Lynn at Subfighter Gym in Laguna Hills, CA.

March 20, 2009 – Nam Phan defeats (TKO) Hideki Kadowaki (former Shooto world champ) at Sengoku 7 in Tokyo, Japan.

On March 21, Rervgear sponsored fighter John Rivera competed at the Mercer County Nationals in New Jersey, hosted by Master Ivan Mendes. There he won First Place in Soft Style forms, Soft Style weapons and Continuous Sparring. He also won Grand Championships in Weapons and Continuous Sparring.

John does not stop – he soon will be traveling to Sydney, Australia, as part of the US Martial Arts Team for the 4th World Martial Arts Games. Over 20 countries and more than 1000 athletes will be participating in this event.

John was given the high honor of being named the US team’s Kung Fu Coach. He’s also coaching their continuous fighting athletes. This team includes fighters, grapplers, jiu-jitsu experts, forms competitors and more. John believes this team represents the best martial artists from the USA. The athletes on the US Team compromise every art, including karate, taekwondo, kung fu, wushu, kenpo, kobudo, and jiu-jitsu.

John Rivera is originally from Trenton, NJ. He’s been training in martial arts for more than 30 years in Northern Shaolin Kung Fu (Bao Shu Fang Lian Kung Fu Taji Silat of Princeton), Tang Soo Do (Lee’s Tang Soo Do Academy) and Tae Kwon Do (Kyum Karate). He relocated to Coconut Creek, Florida 3 years ago and began training in Choy Lah Fut (Lee Koon Hung Choy Lah Fut), Muy Thai Kickboxing and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (Main HQ’s American Top Team).

John works for Anodyne Medical Device, Inc. as Lead Supervisor in the RF Welding Department.

John Rivera represented the USA at the World Championship Games in Cancun, Mexico. The competition was between Mexico and the USA. The competition took place March 14, 2009 at the Crown Resort Hotel (Cancun, Mexico). John performed in traditional kata, musical kata, open kata, traditional weapons and the Main Event Full Contact Muy Thai Kickboxing. He won Five Gold Medals.
