On July 10, 2009, Revgear sponsored Joel Mickells was fighting at Fight to Win Promotions in Denver, Colorado. He was fighting against Anthony Werner – 145 lb. champion – for F2W 135 lb. elimination title. Joel had to lose 7 lbs just before the fight.
Mickells closed the distance with a kick and Werner clinched to set up a takedown. On the ground Mickells displayed an active guard. Mickells was able to escape a guillotine choke attempt from Werner before taking half mount. Werner scored a sweep to set up a rolling guillotine attempt. Mickells again defended the choke and took side control before standing to end the round. Round two saw Mickells get a takedown early in the round. On the mat Mickells set in the fight ending triangle choke to earn the title at :42 of round two.
Joel is now moving to 10-2 in his MMA career with 8 wins by submission! Congrats, Joel!
